Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why is Tek Raki produced in Europe?

The most important factor determining the quality of raki is the quality of the grape must. At Tek Raki, we produce in Europe, where the world's finest and most aromatic grapes are grown, combining traditional raki flavour with premium raw materials.

  • What sets Tek Raki apart from other raki?

Our difference lies in combining Europe perfectionism with the traditional art of distillation. The finest raw materials, hygienic production in modern facilities, and special ageing processes that ensure a smooth taste make Tek Raki unique.

  • What is the difference between Tek Raki product varieties (Classic, Premium, Special Series)?

Classic: Ideal for everyday drinking, offering a soft and balanced flavour.

Premium: Features a more intense anise aroma and a fuller taste, ideal for distinguished occasions.

Special Series: Produced in limited quantities from only the finest grape harvests and aged for an extended period. Offers a unique flavour experience for collectors and gourmets.

  • Do you only use grape must in your products?

Yes, all our products are produced using alcohol obtained from 100% high-quality grape must and the finest quality aniseed. They contain no added sugar or artificial flavourings.

  • How is raki produced?

Raki production involves the second distillation of must (or other agricultural-based alcohols) obtained from dried or fresh grapes together with aniseed in copper stills. Tek Raki carries out this process using traditional methods.

  • Why does raki "whiten" (lion's milk)?

When water is added to raki, it whitens because anethole, an oil found in aniseed that dissolves in alcohol, loses its solubility when it comes into contact with water, forming an emulsion.

  • How should raki be drunk?

What is the ideal way to serve it? Raki is usually drunk neat or with cold water added. The ideal way to serve it is in a tall, thin ‘raki glass’, first with the raki, then the water and finally (optionally) ice. It is not recommended to put ice directly into the raki, as this can destroy the structure of the aniseed.

  • What are the best accompaniments for raki?

Raki is consumed with a rich mezze culture known as the ‘Çilingir Sofrası’ (locksmith's table). The main accompaniments are white cheese, melon, haydari, muhammara, shakshuka, lakerda, çiroz and seasonal salads.

  • What are the ideal storage conditions for raki?

Raki should be stored upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Although storing it in the refrigerator or freezer brings it to the ideal drinking temperature, room temperature is sufficient for long-term storage.

  • Does raki have an expiry date?

Due to its high alcohol content, raki does not spoil (as long as it remains unopened) and has no expiry date. However, once opened, it will be exposed to air and may experience slight changes in aroma over time.
